Ongoing Multicultural Skill-Building Groups (a.k.a. Peer Supervision)

Another option for multicultural training is to join one of the Ongoing Multicultural Skill-Building Groups, also known as Peer Supervision. This continuing program is ideally suited for individuals and small groups working in multicultural environments, experiencing race-related challenges, or wanting to get re-energized in their commitment to changing sexism, classism, racism, and other "isms."

VISIONS offers supervised follow-up for ongoing multicultural training through monthly, day-long, and half-day sessions, as well as quarterly two-day sessions. Participants practice implementing multicultural approaches, with the support and feedback of facilitators and other group members.

Peer supervision groups are designed to offer the following objectives:

  • Enhance participants' ability to effect change on the personal, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural levels
  • Broaden participants' knowledge and application of theory and practice as related to modern oppression, internalized oppression, worldview differences, racial identity development, intervention strategies, cross-cultural communication, supervision and conflict resolution, and multicultural organizational development
  • Strengthen participants' understanding of transactional analysis/ Gestalt theory and how these techniques can be best utilized to bring about change
  • Provide opportunities to practice new facilitation and intervention skills
  • Deepen participants' awareness of the connections and intersections among all forms of oppression
  • Support participants' own continued development around issues of oppression and power imbalances.
