Mediation and Conflict Resolution
VISIONS offers services in mediation and/or facilitation for intact groups. When a workgroup is not functioning to its highest potential, our consultants apply skills in group facilitation and mediation over the course of a series of meetings with the group (and individuals if indicated). A process of problem identification and goal clarification is usually the first step in setting the stage for addressing the issues which are causing difficulty.
Since miscommunication and misunderstanding are frequently the root of the concerns, a set of practices which enhance cooperative work relationships, and minimize the destructive aspects of competition are introduced. Group members participate in activities that allow them to "try on" these new practices with each other. Other tool-sets which may be applied to specific issues include:
- enhanced listening skills,
- guidelines for communication,
- understanding and working with the feelings of group members, and
- guidelines for conflict resolution.
